PERI-URBAN

MANDI

FOOD MARKET

NEW DELHI, INDIA

500,000 sq.m

Traditionally the mandi served the purpose of exchange, a place for farmers to sell their produce. Currently it has moved away from this practice, and the typology does not account for the peri-urban context.

Peri-Urban Mandi aims to connect the peri-urban town with existing agricultural infrastructure through community accessible space. This serves as a prototype for an equitable and distributed food infrastructure where the mandi will be inserted into the current economic food network, integrating the warehouse, wholesale, and production all on one site.

The insertion of this new network will establish a direct connection between farmers and consumers, allowing market for farmers and access to consumers.
